Software Controls Engineer

Analyze, create specifications , design, develop, test, and debug computer software in support of Alcoa’s company-wide conversion/upgrade of all of their systems to operate using Windows 7. This upgrade is being performed in order to help Alcoa HHC remain Microsoft-compliant. In this effort, my duties include upgrading & rewriting software used on the production floor (including robotics software) from DOS-Based languages like QBasic to Windows-Based languages like Visual Basic (VB) 6, VB.Net and C#.

C /C++ Programmer

- Upgraded and assisted heavily with maintenance of Metadata Programs & the Common Library Programs and Files of NASA's Clouds and Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) Project at NASA's Langley Research Center

-The common library and Metadata software mentioned above are used throughout the CERES project and was upgraded from Fortran 77/90 and Fortran95 combination to C++ Language and from ADA to C++, Perl and PHP.

- Assisted with developing and testing of Inversion Software used on the CERES project.

- Worked with programs that use versions 5 and 6 of the Hierarchical Data Format (HDF) as well as netCDF; a set of file formats and libraries designed to store and organize large amounts of numerical data for NASA

- Assisted with developing SRBAVG Lite Web Database for NASA using Perl and PHP. Created and maintained an Oracle Lite database & wrote corresponding Stored Procedures and SQL scripts in this effort.

- Created webpages regarding the CERES Library files using HTML, CSS, JavaScript & Java Web Services

 

Northrop Grumman Defense Mission Systems 06/06 - 06/08

Software Engineer / Data Engineer SME

- Collected and maintained data records of U.S. Joint Forces Command (JFCOM) Headquarters (assets deemed critical to DoD) using Java, Oracle and Oracle SQL for scripting and stored procedures.

- Made written assessments of Databases used by the J3 Sector of JFCOM as to their relevance to the Defense Critical Infrastructure Program (DCIP) of JFCOM

- Updated & Maintained J34 Info. to JFCOM’s J3 Sector Webpages via MS Sharepoint 

- Observed the Global Information Grid (GIG) Network on a daily basis and reported any possible subversive activity, abnormalities or interruptions that could impact JFCOM to superiors and made recommendations for change

- Maintained and upgraded programs for the Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Services (CGVTS) System at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Portsmouth, VA, using Java  / J2EE (using such tools as JDK 1.5, Swing, JavaBeans,  EJB, JUnit, Ant, CVS & later Subversion).

- Upgraded and maintained Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g databases for both the Hawkeye and CGVTS Systems, at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Portsmouth, VA. Maintained Oracle 9i databases. Successfully upgraded databases from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g. Continued to maintain and fine tune upgraded databases. Created and maintained stored procedures. These databases were maintained on Windows 2000 Platforms, using Oracle SQL Plus, Oracle Enterprise Manager, as well as DOS Scripts written as .bat and Install Shield (.iss) files.

- The programming & database work was done using SOA Principles.

Military Analyst

- Responsibilities included operation and maintenance of the Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation System (JCATS) and the Joint Theater Level Simulation System (JTLS) within both the Joint Multi-Resolution Modeling (JMRM) Federation and the Joint Live-Virtual-Constructive (JLVC) Federations at the Joint Warfighting Center (J7 Sector) at the U.S. Joint Forces Command (JFCOM) in Suffolk, VA

- Operated and maintained Multiple Unified Simulation System (MUSE)/Air Force Synthetic Environment For Reconnaissance And Surveillance (AFSERS) program, a simulation system for unmanned air vehicles (UAVs)

- Provided programming support for web-enabled databases for JFCOM

- Responsible for the design, code, testing and deploying programs written in Microsoft VBScript, Microsoft Access 2000, Microsoft ASP, Java, JSP, and Oracle SQL for the Joint National Training Center (JNTC) Database Repository . - Provided programming support for the Hazardous Materials Information System (HMIS), an online client/server RDBMS application developed by the Navy for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA)

- HMIS was written in VBA and Oracle SQL and used an Access 2.0 GUI front end to manipulate data stored in an Oracle 7 database

- Analyzed software-trouble reports and when valid software deficiencies were identified, performed problem-analysis and developed proposals for alternative software solutions

- Used rapid-application development (RAD) methodologies in an object-oriented programming environment to write, test, and debug software to reduce time and improve efficiency

- Participated in meetings with Navy (NCTAMSLANT, then later SPAWAR) civilian project management, the DLA government representatives and DLA’s customers regarding project and milestone reporting , software deployment as well as customer satisfaction with the software deployments.

- Provided programming, database and re-engineering  support for the Army Global Command and Control System (GCCS-A), a client/server RDBMS application system developed by SAIC and Lockheed Martin Corporation for the Army.

- GCCS-A was developed in Informix and C Language, then upgraded to Informix and C++

- Coordinated, monitored and supervised the efforts of seven (7) other Software Engineers on my team regarding the Computer Software Configuration Items (CSCI) that my team was responsible for.

- Participated in meetings with project management, the government representatives as well as other GCCS-A lead software engineers regarding project and milestone reporting, software deployment as well as customer satisfaction with the software deployments.

Software Engineer

-Analyzed, designed, coded, tested and helped deploy software developed for the U.S. Army Reserve’s RCAS System. This was a client/server personnel system developed by SAIC and The Boeing Corporation for the U.S. Army Reserve. 

 

Value Systems Engineering (VSE), Incorporated  6/1990 - 12/1992

Programmer

-Designed, coded, tested, and deployed real-time software developed by VSE for the U.S. Postal Service’s  Automated Bar Code Sorters (BCS). The BCS, using bar code on the parcel, sorted the parcel(s) inot twenty (20) individual bin bins via zip code(s). The software I wrote and was responsible for was for the BCS Display Panels, which indicated to the postal operator(s) which bin represented which zip code. The software was written in C Language in a QNX ( a UNIX derivative)Operating System environment. I also wrote software that handled parcels without zip codes or otherwise were flawed, imperfect as well as those that were ok but did not fit the Bar Code paradigm.

-Provided system administration and programming support for real-time signal processing and reconnaissance systems developed by E-Systems for the U.S Air Force and U.S. Navy.

-Designed, coded, tested and helped deploy signal processing systems written for the Air Force in Fortran and Assembly in the Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) environment. Upgraded these same systems using C Language and Assembly in the Unix and HP-UX (Hewlett-Packard’s version of Unix) and HP 6800 simulators.

- Designed, coded, tested and helped deploy new signal processing systems for the Air Force and Navy using C Language and Assembly in the Unix and HP-UX (Hewlett-Packard’s version of Unix) and HP 6800 simulators.
